Identifying the desired recombinant(s).

One of our goals is to produce a new recombinant plasmid that includes GeneA in its multiple cloning site. Unfortunately, it is easy to make recombinants that are not desirable (for example, recombinants that have an insert that we don't want or no insert at all). In order to identify our desired recombinant, we used several selection or screening steps. Briefly describe these selection/screening steps and for each step, explain how the step helps us either remove undesirable recombinants or identify the desired recombinant.

In molecular biology, selection steps usually remove undesired molecules by selecting for the desired molecule. Screening steps are used to differentiate between desired and undesired molecules when selection is inadequate. It is not terrible important that you know the difference between screening and selecting but it is important that you recognize how each step we completed in this project helped us create the recombinant we wanted.
